Review of Children of Men

After watching the movie of 2012, the movie of Children of Men is another movie scares the hell out of me. The rumors of the world ends soon spread all around the world after the movie of 2012. Some people believe on May 21st, 2011, which is coming soon. Some people say it is on December 21st, 2012, the world as we know it will come to an end. But hey, who knows? If it comes, it will come eventually.

In the movie of Children of Men, it sets in the United Kingdom of 2027. It happens when assorted natural disasters, wars and terriorist acts have rendered most of the world ungovernable. The movie describes the time when the world is coming to an end and socities are struggling to survie. The reason why the world exinctions is it has been eighteen years since earth has seen the birth of a human child.
Many countries collapse, and millions of illegal immigrants come to London since United Kingdom is the last functioning government. But still, there are many terrorism try to take down the government. In the movie, the main character Theo Faron must find safe transit misfor Kee, who is a pregnant African fugee in the chaos. She is the key of the future in the movie. The Children of Men is set against a background of violence and terrorism.

What makes me interest is they never mention why women cannot pregnant in the movie. The midwife, Miriam mentioned there were not any women pregnant after many of the women miscarried the babies when she was working at the hosipital by the time she was 31 years old. But how come Kee can be pregnant? I would love to see how can the organization of Fishes find her.

There are few shots in the film upset me. When the polices caught refugees and force them get in a big cage, the fugees speak different lanuage to ask for help. There were all kind of people in the cages: elders, children and sick people. They were trying to survive. But the polices would not care, they just kicked and hit them, or killed them. Another shot was Jasper killed by the Fishes after he first killed his wife and his dog. He insisted to stay in the house even he knew the Fishes is coming to kill him. He let Theo leave with Miriam and Kee and pointed wrong direction for the Fishes. He is so unselfishness. The last shot was when Theo went to Nigel to ask a pass for Kee, he was like went into a different world. People in there were drinking afternoon tea, playing on the grasses, and riding on the horses. But there is a war going on outside of the wall. This scene shows the difference between the royal and rich to the poor and cheap.

However, when the scene of all the soliders hear the crying of the baby in the building, they stopped flighting. They believe this is the hope and key for the future. The ways they looked at the baby were respectful, faithful and unblievable. The scene is silence but strong.

Overall, I like the film. It really impresses me. I admire the plot decison and the climax is intense. But I do not expect it happens one day in the future. War and natural disaters can kill many innocent lives. Let's live in love and peace.

Meseum of Moving Image

Museum of The Moving Image really impressive me. I love it so much! The high techniques blow my minds. It also reminds me of many childhood memories.
When I first arrived to the entrance of the museum, I was shocked actually. I thought this museum would be the same as other old fashion museum. The doors of entrance are so pretty and special. The doors have huge letters with pink color around it, and they use reflection mirror which you cannot see what is inside until you walk in.

When I first walked in, the huge image on the left hand side has totally captured my attention. It was amazing.
As soon as I walked to the second floor, I saw a huge screen and it was playing a cartoon. I did not take a seat to watch it, because the images on the back have pulled me to them. The images are very special. If you see from far away, you can see the image is perfect as a whole. But when you take a close look, you can see the creators used different material from magazines and clothes to complete the images. They are so creative and awesome.
On the second floor, I saw many stars' pictures, some of them I do not even know who are they. The tools and cosmetics on the left hand side make me understand that a star really needs huge make up and pretty dressing to get to the show.
I also found my childhood memories - Nintendo Games. The Mario and Brothers was my favor childhood games. It reminds me a lot. Of course, I stayed awhile to play that game. XD

On the third floor, I was first impressed by the Optical Toys. They are so cool! I especially like the Zoetrope. It can show every movement of the men in action. The second thing to impressed me was the huge record machines. I wonder how people carry around back in times. And last but not least, I tried to make the sound effect. I made the Simsons one, and I made it very funny. I wish I recorded it.
The Meseum of Moving Image is awesome. I strongly recommended to my friends to visit. Not only it show many different actors and tools, but it also kind of brings you back to your childhood. I love this trip so much!
(p.s. isnt it funny? XD)

Hunter College: A day in the life

This is my school, Hunter College. This is my third year in Hunter College. Today is a sunny day and I go to school as usual. I was surprised that there were not many people in school today. There are so crowed at the front door usually,
As I go in the Hunter College door, I always like to take a look of the painting on the wall. One of my classmates told me that this painting has some kind of special meaning, but she did not tell me what it is exactly. I guess she is just fooling around me. Her name is Julie, and she transferred to other college in last semester. So whenever I walk by and see this painting, it always reminds me of her. What a nice and sweet girl.
I went to the cafeteria to have lunch today because I still had plenty of time left before class start. I like to sit by the window so that I can see cars are going on the road and people are walking on the street. I also can see students and professors are walking through the bridge. I do not mind share table. I like to meet new friends and hear their stories. Oh well, many of them are complaining about school and classes.
This is the 3rd floor of West building and it is most crowed place in Hunter College. This floor can go to both East and North buildings. On the Hall way you can see in front, there are many posters usually. Students and departments change it every week. I like to hang around there because I can read many useful article.
After lunch, I have to go to my classroom. This is a Media and Film class, and we are working in lab. On the poster board, there are many different media and film classes listed above for this semester. Also there are forms of media and film departments next to the board. Alright, let's get going to the class!

Ethics

To be honest, I have many different favorite piece of media. Speak of recently, I watched a piece of media really impresses me. The video names "Killing Us Softly" by Jean Kilbourne (you can search it on Youtube, just in case you ask.) It talks about women advertising in media industry and how it effects people in the society. I like it so much personally.

Jean Kilbourne tells us the truth of how advertisers change the roles of women in our daily life. In our modern city we can see advertisements everywhere, such as posters on the streets, commercials on the televisions, and advertisers on the magazines. Jean Kilbourne tells that there are many advertisers select skinny and tall female models to sell their products. In that way, the perspective of beauty was changed in the society. It makes women believe they are valued based on their body, therefore their self-esteem is also based on how their body looks compared to others. Be specific, people think a lady is beautiful if she is skinny and tall. That makes many women to diet. They all want to be beautiful in others' eyes. In a result, many women have eating disorders and other kind of illness according to diet. She also shows that many advertisers change female into objects, such as alcohol and perfume advertisements. The ladies in the advertisers are usually dress sexy and look seductive, or even naked, just covering the important spots by the products, etc. These kind of advertisers make women become supplements to men's life. This media piece shows that many advertisers become a life style in the society. They are not only selling the products but also selling life style.

I think "Killing Us Softly" is a media piece that has ethical concerns behind it. It warns people that these advertisements have serious effect on our lives. Those companies should not use pretty and sexy female models to sell the products even the advertisers have marketing selling points. Moreover, they should not compare female models to objects or animals. Instead, they should have just sell the products directly. I think those companies need more respect toward female. They have to realize how important and serious are the influences, such as our next generation seeing this advertisements as a norm. This media piece totally points out the ethical concerns.

I believe there are many unethical media on the world, such as violence and scary media pieces. There is a difference between media that is about moral or ethical notions versus media that is not about ethical issues. People got different points of view, and it is hard to judge which one is better. I guess people who make the unethical media just because self interest or for fun.

I wish females can be often depicted in positive way in the future. Not only it makes women better off, but also changes toward our next generations. We should work together to build a better living space!
